Terry Bevington enters his 17th season as a minor league manager. This is Bevington’s second time as manager of the Sports as he guided the team in 2003 and part of 2004. The Memphis, TN resident managed the Chicago White Sox for three years from 1995-1997 and posted a record of 221-214.
Bevington signed as a catcher with the New York Yankees out of high school in 1974. He played seven years in the minor leagues where he reached the Triple A level in 1980 with Vancouver of the Pacific Coast League. He became a player-coach that same year for Burlington, Iowa in the Midwest League.
The 51-year-old began his managerial career at Burlington in 1981 with other stops in the Milwaukee Brewers organization at El Paso (Texas League) in 1984 and 1985. Bevington served as coach of the White Sox from 1989 until he took over the managerial duties in 1995. In 1998, he became skipper at Syracuse in the Triple A International League, an affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. Bevington then became the third base coach with the Blue Jays from 1999-2001.
After his stint in Shreveport, Bevington spent two seasons as manager of the Edmonton Cracker-Cats in the Northern League. |
